8000 BTC buried deep under tons of garbage

Since 2013 a hard disk allowing access to 8,000 bitcoins is buried with all household waste in Newport Municipal Landfillin Wales. And all this time, James Howells he fights tooth and nail to regain control of this precious treasure.

Because from now on with BTC $98,500 at the time of writing this is a fortune 788 million dollars who was lostvery likely forever (given the state the poor drive must be in, if it’s miraculously found).

As the Daily Mail reported on November 25, the story recently revived a bone of contention between James Howells and his former partner. After all, former partners of this couple blaming each other for responsibility of this more than costly loss.

James Howells’ former partner would only follow his instructions: goodbye Bitcoin!

According to the unfortunate man, his ex-wife should fired by mistake a hard drive containing access to a fortune press in BTC. But according to Halfina Eddy-Evans (the ex-partner in question) would just do follow the instructions by James Howells.

“Yes, I threw out his trash, he asked me to. (…) (The hard drive) was placed in a black (garbage) bag with other unwanted items. He asked me to take it to the dump. (…) I had no idea what it contained (…). It wasn’t my fault that I lost him. (…) I wish nothing more than for him to find it because I’m sick of hearing it! »

The misfortune of James Howells reminds us vital importance never lose sight of private key to access your crypto wallet. And without talking about forgetting or unfortunate loss, it is also highly inadvisable to leave it lying on classic hard drive (as in this story) enough to access your cryptocurrencies. Whether you want to protect your bitcoins or other digital assets, it is better to have a hardware walletwhen the relevant amounts become significant.
